Thank you Andy for delivering yet another brilliant incursion for the children.

The Little Authors Program has opened up the children to a whole new world of both reading and writing. Your stories were engaging, professional and delivered in the most entertaining way possible.  The time you spent discussing these stories with the children has left them with pools of creative energy that has carried on into the following days with books made by themselves.

We will definitely be booking you in next year.

What is it?

The Little Authors Program has been designed to help encourage children to create their own stories to share, with a focus on creativity, character development, rhythm and other processes associated with creative writing.

What we do

The Little Authors Program begins with a fun introductory talk about Andy’s journey to becoming an author. We discuss favorite stories as well as looking into the different industries or skills that are needed to produce a physical book. Andy then reads all 3 of his own published books to the children in his unique and entertaining style.  After each book, there is a discussion about the theme of each story explaining why and how it was created.

The themes are as follows:

Buzz Off Flies!

This book is a hilarious story about a Dad and his frustration with flies being inside the house.
Apart from being relatable to most Australian families, this one works with rhythm and rhyme to help create a gallop style of reading.

Couch Daddy

Couch Daddy is a beautiful insight to how parents can sometimes feel a little bit flat. Written from the perspective of a child, this light hearted story revolves around strength, empathy and acceptance that everybody has feelings. The illustrations are used to help distinguish the variety of feelings and encourage further discussion.

Leave That Phone Alone

This story has been well received as its message is universal. Leave That Phone Alone is about children having a voice in relation to their parents use (or overuse) of technology. This helps open up household conversations about how the children can also be accountable for their own screen time. Written as a poem, this story has been beautifully illustrated by a variety of children to really gain perspective on how they perceive this situation.

Leave That Phone Alone by Andy Addenbrooke

At the end of each session, every child will receive their own copy of Leave That Phone Alone.

Andy is more than happy to sign each book with the children if you would like. They will also receive an A3 Story Plot Poster. This is designed to assist children in their own story writing adventure by scaffolding some fundamental aspects of story writing. These can be used as an extension of the program in the classroom or taken home to be worked on.
